The best advice comes from the excellent book "SJWs Always Lie" by Vox Day. Chapter 7 has a survival guide for what to do when SJWs attack, which is mostly summarized in the pdf below:
Point #3 (one of the more important ones) is do not apologize under any circumstances. Point #6 (which Geoff Marcy and Tim Hunt should have followed) is do not resign.
